Once again, our thoughts
and prayers are with the innocent victims of this latest
senseless tragedy
Useless
though they are, we send them on to you, the families of those whose
lives were cut too short
We
only wish we were not so jaded by the hundreds who fell before them
to actually feel your pain
But
we’re just dusting off these now-so-trite messages of comfort for
the latest bloody martyrs
Yes, sympathy for those lost is pouring in from all the usual
places...with exactly the same results
Heartfelt Hallmark Card condolences are copied one more time into
hastily-created secure websites
Tried and true, tired Tweets of hope are released once again...a
cloud of quickly-disappearing black balloons
Political speech writers dust off tired platitudes for their leaders
solemnly-read
<but empty> statements
One more time we hear from both sides that this must never ever
happen again...but once again we do nothing
Candlelight vigils by peaceful protesters plead again for action by
our wise leaders, once more to no avail
For the
wise among us counsel we must slow down, for it’s too soon
after the tragedy to take any hasty actions,
Because such barbaric acts should not, and would not stand: If we
simply enforce the laws already on the books
And all our worn-out thoughts and used-up prayers won’t bring back
their crushed hopes and shattered dreams
Yes, in our hearts we know our jaded thoughts and limp prayers are as
worthless as any used car sales pitch
But they help hold off the liberals lame whining for traitorous
restrictions on our sacred 2nd amendment rights
Because, after all, had all of these victims been armed
and ready to defend themselves…
So, maybe we could at least, and quite impotently, build a memorial
to the victims on the site…
Because we’re not going to do anything that actually prevents the
next bloody massacre of the innocents
Sure, write your congressmen, sign online petitions and talk to your
friends and neighbors
But know that any real real change in guns and attitudes is about as
likely as finding peace in the Middle East
